Aida Esi Hayfron-Benjamin is a curator and cultural entrepreneur born in Trinidad and Tobago and living and working in Accra, Ghana. She is the founder of Citizen Projects - a brick and mortar gallery space and curatorial platform working to foster artistic production, research, critical dialogue and community across disciplines. With experience across West-Africa spanning Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon as well as an artistic upbringing in Trinidad and Tobago and University Schooling in Miami, Florida - Aida Esi is well versed in both modern and contemporary Caribbean and African Art.
Her curatorial practice bridges art, architecture and design, with projects ranging from cross-cultural residencies in Benin City, Nigeria to curating the Gallery LAB section of the FNB Art Joburg (Art Fair). She has collaborated with global brands on art and design comissions for West-African Artists. From 2021-2022, Aida Esi was the artist liaison and residency coordinator for the renowned Gallery 1957 Residency programme in Accra, Ghana.
Spearheaded by Aida Esi, Citizen Projects completed their first annual group residency in Benin City, Nigeria in collaboration with Angels and Muse (BlackMuse) in May of 2025.
