Global Trends in the Atlanta Art Market

Join Atlanta Art Week for a conversation and Q&A with some of Atlanta’s premier art professionals, including art advisors, collectors, auctioneers, and gallerists.

Thinking of starting to collect art? Intimidated about approaching a gallerist or not sure where to begin? Mystified by the art market in general? Or want to learn more about Atlanta’s art scene? From auction houses to private art advising, this panel discussion aims to demystify the process of owning contemporary art and share knowledge of the Atlanta art market between seasoned experts. Participants will learn how to effectively interact with gallerists and auction houses, set goals for purchasing work, managing your collection, and more.

The talk will be held on the occasion of the inaugural Atlanta Art Week, graciously hosted by Ahlers and Ogletree and moderated by The Fine Art Group, in partnership with The Art Newspaper and La Fête Du Rosé

Panel participants include:

Spalding Nix, Gallerist & Appraiser
Elizabeth Rickenbaker, Fine Art Auctioneer
Tim Shrager, Art Collector & High Museum Board Member
Kendra Walker, Fine Art Advisor

**Moderated by Shane David Hall of The Fine Art Group

As an independent, global team of art advisors and art finance experts, we are dedicated to guiding our clients through every stage of the art market across our five core services.

Founded over 20 years ago, The Fine Art Group has established an unrivaled track record across the art ecosystem. From first acquisitions and building collections, through to appraisals and art financing, we offer clients an experienced and deft hand – helping to navigate the opacities of the market.

The acquisition of Pall Mall Art Advisors in 2021 brought greater depth and wider global reach to the Group. Today, our in-house expertise spans Western Art from 1500 to the present day, with a particular focus on Impressionism, Surrealism, Modern, Post-War and Contemporary works. We’re also experienced across fine jewelry, watches and valuable collectibles – with a trusted network of vetted consultants to draw on for bespoke category insight.

Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery is a full-service auction gallery strategically located on Miami Circle in the historic Buckhead district of Atlanta, one of the Southeastern United States’ largest commercial and financial centers.

The gallery is owned and operated by Robert Ahlers and his wife Christy Ogletree Ahlers whose collective 40 years of experience in the Atlanta estate and auction industry forms the backbone of the company. The partners are recognized for expanding regional interest in the industry, fostering an environment of integrity and honesty, and for introducing an innovative brand that offers turn-key service for any estate.

The gallery is generously housed in two buildings on Miami Circle – our showroom and auction floor comprising about 8,000 square feet, and our warehouse and offices comprising about 17,000 square feet. These spaces allow optimal flexibility for pre-auction storage of estates as well as prime location for previewing items to the Southeast’s most elite buyers.

The gallery presents between 8-10 auctions each year featuring a diverse assortment of items and collections including rare objects, fine art, estate jewelry, vintage automobiles, fine silver, collectibles, antique furniture, and rare maps and books. Our offerings come from leading collectors and private estates, as well as deaccessioned works from museums. Our live auctions are held in Atlanta but are attended via phone and internet by bidders from across the nation and world. Each sale is broadcast on three live bidding platforms – Invaluable.com, LiveAuctioneers, com, and Bidsquare.com – as well as on our proprietary bidding platform – Bid.AandOauctions.com –  and our award winning smart phone app.

Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery is part of The Ahlers Group, one of the largest antiques dealers in the Atlanta area having a consortium of companies dealing in fine antiques and estate liquidation. The Ahlers Group comprises Peachtree Battle Antiques & Interiors, a retail antique store located in a historic building in the noted Peachtree Battle Shopping Center; Black Bear Antiques, located in Ellijay, Georgia offering a wide array of mountain living furniture and housewares; and Peachtree Battle Estate Sales & Liquidations, which offers both in-home estate sales and on-site gallery sales at their location on Miami Circle.
